In particular, the <em>Boston Herald American</em> often made racist attacks against Commissioner John O. Boone and sided with the guards’ union. On the other hand, the <em>Boston Globe</em> used information from members of the Ad Hoc Committee to report on how the prisoners’ union brought calm to Walpole during the takeover.
